Officially On The Loop!

Image
Choppy ride as we left Sea Cliff, excited and a little anxious as we anticipate the NYC boat traffic and currents. We have transited the East River with friends on their sailboat a few years ago so it is not all totally new. It is a beautiful day! First view of the NYC skyline "Execution Rocks" lighthouse, very spooky history Steppingstone - last one before the East River Throgs Neck Bridge - 1st of many bridges today Different view of La Guardia With blue lights flashing! Hell Gate - in the best of conditions, the currents are still impressive The UN Hunters Park Neighborhood Empire State Building Our first glimpse Brooklyn Bridge Joining The Loop! We'll "cross our wake" here next year. A perfect day for a trip around Manhattan! Linda's grandmother came through here from Sweden on September 30, 1919 Views of the High Line from a whole different perspective Last bridge of the day - we'll be staying the night just on the other side. Peaceful night - looki...

Leg 7 & 8: Old Lyme, CT - Norwalk CT - Sea Cliff, NY

Image
We slept well at the dock in Old Lyme and enjoyed a long passage day along the CT coast. Great for getting organized and putting everything away. We arrived in Norwalk to find our mooring next to some special neighbors and listening to the crew teams out practicing.  Lovely evening grilling off the back and enjoying the perfect weather. Nice to get a few extra knots for free! Lighthouses entering Norwalk Our neighbors I didn't see any little heads - I liked the greenery! Run to Sea Cliff, NY was relatively quick, picked up a mooring and took out the dinghy for the first test drive with new electric motor. Very nice! Ice cream and lunch meant just snacks for dinner. Lovely sunset! Early start tomorrow to make our way through NYC and "Hell Gate" (you know it if you're a boater) So many lighthouses... Red sky at night sailor's delight!

Leg 6 - Sag Harbor to Old Lyme, CT

Image
We had an outstanding long weekend in Sag Harbor. So great to relax with David's brother Steven, his wife Julie and son Pete. We had perfect summer weather, lunch at the beach, live music with friends, visit to a local winery and outstanding food. We are fully refreshed - laundry done and so many great memories to set us on our way to join the loop in NYC. Today we came across Long Island Sound to Old Lyme, CT - our 6th state in 9 days! Sag Harbor Village Marina Kyra looks grumpy but she is actually having a great time! Forgot to take a picture at the height of the weekend, many more like the one behind Emilie B docked for the holiday weekend Linda, David and his brother Steven Enjoying cocktails on the boat - thanks Julie (sister-in-law) for the pictures! Leg 2 - 5 Gloucester, Plymouth, Cuttyhunk, Jamestown RI, Sag Harbor NY

This shows Legs 2-5 - total time, miles and speed A wealth of experiences in a few days. Picking up moorings, navigating the Cape Cod Canal, setting anchor, wind, waves, thunderstorm and flat seas. We are also getting our sea legs. Kyra is finding her happy place during rolly seas and we think loving us being available 24x7 for lots of extra treats. We are getting reacquainted with living onboard. Probably have packed way too many clothes, but definitely have enjoyed the extra layers at night. We are all looking forward to being in a slip for 3 nights, even though the nights have been relatively quiet. I've sent an email notice of this update to those that have requested it. If you didn't get it and want to be notified of updates, email me at Linda@hatco.com.
