Lots of Locks!

Image
We have just completed day 34 of our adventure and while each day is unique, we have been going through a lot of locks lately. Today we did 10, which brings us to a total of 52 to date. All but 3 have been Parks Canada, meaning they are run by Parks Canada and are of historical significance. All the lock masters are really nice, mostly young (summer jobs) and quite helpful in getting you to your planned destination of the day. Emilie B Goes International!

We are currently enjoying a relaxing 3 night stay in Montreal Old Port. It is a great location right in the center of the city. We had an uneventful clearing into Canada and a pleasant ride to the first lock on the Chambly Canal. At this time of year, you can only lock through 2x per day, and we were there for the 1PM lockage. There was a sailboat that we had seen at customs that also wanted to go through, but it was very obvious that there would be no room for another boat in the locks. These locks were a bit more stressful as fenders needed adjustment during the ups and down and there just wasn't any extra room. We were too busy to take pictures in the lock, but I think you will be able to appreciate the size of the empty locks. The international border Emilie B flying the Canadian flag!
