First Locks and Fresh Water

We have now gone through 12 locks and will be in fresh water until we pass through our last lock into the Gulf of Mexico sometime in the fall. We think this is probably the first time Emilie B has been in fresh water. No longer a need to check tide charts, something we have done in all our previous boating experiences. We have been traveling with another boat "Voyager". They have completed about 4500 miles of The Loop in various stages and will cross their wake in Kentucky this fall.  We'll continue traveling with them to Montreal where they may choose to stay for a couple of extra days, but I'm sure we'll catch up with them again.

Troy Federal Lock - first one for us! Ahead is Voyager, anything possible has been lowered for the bridges ahead

Up close with the lock wall - ready to go up

Exiting the Troy Federal Lock - 1 down, over 100 more to do on The Loop

Decision point

This way to the Erie Canal

Our path - north to through the Champlain Canal

Extremely important to know your height - Voyager is at 14ft with everything lowered - we are 11' 6" with our radar mast down

Voyager is a Grand Banks 46 - a beautiful boat!

Gate not in operation - looks like a nice nesting site for something

After 6 locks, we pulled into Ft. Edwards where the town provides free docks, power and water. We wanted to be tied up before some weather arrived. We had time for local pizza and beer before the rain arrived...

Thank you Mother Nature for the free boat wash!

First lock of day 2 on the Champlain Canal

We've got our radar mast back up (15 ft clearance) - looks closer than it was

Highest point of the canal - we are now "locking down" to Lake Champlain

View behind us as the water empties

We decided to stay across the bay from Ft. Ticonderoga

Difficult to capture all the beauty

All alone at anchor

Next day on our way to Burlington - these cormorants seem to gather in big groups

Split Rock Point, NY

Lake Champlain has a maximum depth of 400ft

At Ferry Dock Marina in Burlington, VT - great stay here for 2 nights

The sky was amazing - a camera just can't capture it

On our way to Rouses Point, Cumberland Head/Grand Isle Ferries crossing in front of us

In our slip at Rouses Point - tomorrow customs and hopefully the Chambly Canal

This was a beautiful route!
