Out of the Locks!

While we have enjoyed the challenge and variety of 114 locks, we are very glad to be in the open waters of Georgian Bay. The water is pristine, relatively warm (even by my standards) and the views are awesome. We are excited to be anchoring again (last time was in Lake Champlain) and meandering among the 30,000 islands of Georgian Bay. On the Trent Severn Waterway we experienced some of the most unique locks in the world and they have been around for more than 100 years. We spent a couple of nights in Peterborough, ON and most other nights tied up to the lock walls.  We can't say enough about the staff of Parks Canada and what a great job they do. We are continuing to get the most out of our Parks Canada mooring pass - tonight at a dock on Beausoleil Island. Meeting other loopers and locals enjoying this remarkable area.

At the city marina

View from our stern of the highest (250ft) jet fountain in Canada

Entering the Peterborough Lift Lock - highest lift lock in the world, built 1904 - we are going up 65 feet

Tied up - ready to go

Another looper boat took these videos of us going up
And driving out

Scenes along the TSW

We are starting to see more float planes

This area reminded me of Squam Lake - also with a church on an island

Lovesick Lock - #100 for us ❤

On the lock wall in Buckhorn - stayed here 2 nights waiting out the remnants of Beryl

Parts of the Trent Severn are very narrow and not very deep

Port of Orillia Marina

Swift Rapids Lock - built in 1965 - double the lift of any other lock on the TS (going in)

As we're leaving - you can see the size of the chamber with the doors open (47ft)

For my family - summer "Pine Ridge"

The Big Chute Marine Railway - difficult to get pictures while you are in it - if you are interested, there are lots of videos online. Our view looking forward - traveling over a road

View as we're leaving the railway lift

We were all so tired I didn't get a picture of our last lock on the Trent Severn - there will be more to come on our journey but nothing like the historic ones we have transited so far.

Bay Port Yacht Center - Midland, ON - great place to relax and reprovision for Georgian Bay and the North Channel

Out at anchor

Windswept pines and pink granite are iconic in this area known as the Canadian Shield

A few other boaters with us in Frying Pan Bay - many more places to explore!

Celebration dinner in Midland, ON - we completed all 114 locks with our buddy boat Voyager!
