Back in Salt Water!

Lots of transitions in the last couple of weeks. We completed the inland waterways, went through our last lock (maybe 1 more depending on our route up the east coast) and returned to salt water. We spent Thanksgiving in Fairhope, AL - a lovely community on the east side of Mobile Bay. We've enjoyed getting our bikes out and stretching our legs after 3 nights anchoring out. Now looking forward to more white sand and eventually the return of balmy weather.

This is the largest group of boats we've travelled with (10 total) - departing Midway Marina for a long day of 4 locks and 60+ miles

With the weather cooler, Kyra is seeking out sunny spots

We spent a couple of nights in Columbus MS, getting ready for a 6-day run to the Gulf of Mexico

Can't be a looper and not post a picture of the phonebooth that marks the border between MS and AL

At the Tom Bevill Lock - US Army Corps of Engineers Snagboat MONTGOMERY c.1926

Given the long distances, the short days and the speed of our boat, anchoring out is required - we were by ourselves at this anchorage

Early departure, we have a long run to Demopolis AL and another lock

The White Cliffs of Epes - same type of chalk deposits as the White Cliffs of Dover

Arriving at Demopolis

Leaving Demopolis in some fog, we're part of another large group of loopers

Anchoring in Bashi Creek (2 other boaters are with us)

Dawn departure to get to our last lock!

Mirror finish on the river

Coffeeville Lock - last one on the rivers and #156 for us

Doors opening - final lock complete

Emilie B exiting the lock with a few other loopers

At anchor outside the channel

Emilie B at anchor with an early morning tow heading north

Night 3 anchoring out

Stillness of the morning

Mobile Bay in our sights!

Industrial sculpture

Fairhope Marina - we'll stay here 4 nights

At the marina - sunset was beautiful every night

Enjoying the white sand beach

I returned from a walk with a bag of pink grapefruit and Satsuma mandarins from a home along the way

Kyra does not like to share the spotlight

Now we turn East :)

It is hard to believe the distance we have covered and all the places we have been
